Peacefully, with his wife and daughter at his side at Headwaters Health Care Centre on Monday, January 18, 2016, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Edna Turner for 62 years. Loving father of Beverly Ford-Arnold (Harold Arnold). John was born in Aylmer, Ontario on February 6, 1925, the youngest of 3 sons of the late Hazel Olive Small and Earl Henson Ford. They were raised in St. Thomas, ON, and attended the St. Thomas RLDS Church (now Community of Christ). Predeceased by his brothers Lawrence (1945 in the Netherlands) and Don Ford (2012) and Don’s wife Gladys Leronowich (2014). Uncle of late Don (aka Sonny) Ford (2010), Wayne Ford (Sharon Smith), Debbie Ford-Caron (Martin Caron), and Edna’s niece Louise Mallory (Richard Kloos). Great Uncle to Christopher and Marc-Andre Caron, Jaymie and Justin Ford, and Max and Ginnie Kloos.
John enlisted in London, ON, at the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1943, and served as a wireless operator on the BC coast; discharged 1945. After the war, he attended Queen’s University in Kingston, ON and graduated as a civil engineer in 1950. He worked for 33 years for the Ministry of Transportation. He regularly attended the Community of Christ (Toronto congregation) for the 60 years they lived in North Toronto until he and Edna moved to Shelburne on December 1, 2015.
Friends and family will be received at the Jack & Thompson Funeral Home, Shelburne, ON Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm and Saturday 1 to 2 pm. Funeral service in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 23 at 2 pm. Spring interment. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
