Passed away peacefully with family by his side at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville in his 85th year. Beloved husband of 61 years to Rose. Devoted father of Bruce (Brenda) and Bill (Jennifer). Proud grandfather of Bryan (Jasmine), Lindsay (Jon), Shawn (Jessie), Greg (Amber) and Sherri (Joey), step-grandfather of Vanessa (Ryan) and great-grandfather of Sullivan, Aubree, Everly, Maeve, Raelyn and Haylee and step-great-grandpa of Landan. Dear brother of Albert (the late Wilma), Isabell (the late Harold), Karl (Elaine), Morgan (Signa), Hazel (Jim), Roy (Donna) and brother-in-law of Marg. Predeceased by his brothers Ivan (Florence) and Allan (Jean) and his brother-in-law Carl.
Carman married his wife Rose on September 29th, 1956 and settled in the Town of Shelburne where they raised their two sons; Bruce, now a retired Detective with the Peel Regional Police Service and Bill a Special Constable for Orangeville Police Service. On November 1st, 1957 Carman was appointed to Chief of Police, a position he held until his retirement on December 31st, 1993. During this time the population grew to 3400 and the Shelburne Police Service expanded to a Chief, a Sergeant, five Constables, three auxiliary Constables, a secretary and two fully equipped marked cruisers. Carman was the longest serving Chief of Police in the Province of Ontario and possibly in Canada. He was an active member in the community with both minor and senior sports groups and coached four Ontario Minor Hockey championship teams.

This is not a police funeral. At the request of the family, officers attending the visitation or funeral service are encouraged to wear their uniform.
